We have very little problems with our drinking water in South Dakota, however, for a variety of reasons including aesthetics (for example, taste), health concerns, or as a substitute for other beverages, we may choose to drink bottled water. There are currently nine bottlers in South Dakota that process, bottle and sell water in South Dakota.
State regulations concerning bottled water have recently been revised to conform to FDA regulations. The Drinking Water Program is involved in inspecting and monitoring bottled water plants within the state of South Dakota. Bottled water must conform to Chapter 74:04:13 of the South Dakota Administrative Rules and to the requirements of CFR Title 21 of the US Food and Drug Administration that relate to bottled water.
