Stormwater Permit for Industrial Activities
If you operate a business or industry, you may need a permit for industrial stormwater discharges from your site. The need for an industrial permit is based on the types of activities that you do at your site and your industrial Standard Identification Classification (SIC) code. A list of SIC Codes required to have industrial stormwater permit coverage can be found in Appendix A of the General Permit.
No Exposure Certificate
If your site is required to have General Permit coverage, but all industrial materials and activities are protected to prevent exposure to rain, snow, snowmelt, and/or runoff, you may eligible for a permitting exemption. A No Exposure Certificate is required to be filled out and must be approved by DANR to qualify for this exemption.
Industrial machinery and material handling equipment or activities (such as storage, loading and unloading, and transportation or conveyance) of raw materials, intermediate products, by-products, or waste products must be protected by a storm-resistant shelter.
A storm-resistant shelter is not required for the following industrial materials and activities:
Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) - - A SWPPP is required to be developed prior to submitting your NOI. It does not need to be submitted to DANR but must be implemented onsite prior to starting operations. Section 4.0 of the General Permit contains all the SWPPP requirements.
