Seed Certification Board

Authorization: Chapter 38-11 of the South Dakota Codified Laws (SDCL 38-11)

Activities: The State Seed Certification Board may promulgate rules pursuant to chapter 1-26 to regulate the production, processing and distribution of certified seed and to establish standards for certified seed. The term, seed, as used in this section includes all propagating materials.

Organization: Administered under the direction and supervision of the College of Agriculture and Biological Sciences at South Dakota State University and the dean of the college, but shall retain the quasi-judicial, quasi-legislative, advisory, other nonadministrative and special budgetary functions.

Composition: Five members who are electors of the state appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture:

  1. Two shall be recommended for appointment by the South Dakota Crop Improvement Association
  2. One shall be a representative of the State Department of Agriculture
  3. Two shall be recommended by the dean of agriculture at South Dakota State University
The members of the board shall be appointed so as to represent all areas of the state.

Term of Appointment: Three years.
