Inflation Reduction Act

The Resource Conservation and Forestry Division was awarded Inflation Reduction Act funding by the United States Forest Service for pass through grants in South Dakota. Through this funding opportunity communities are awarded grants to address specific urban forestry problems. This grant will be available to select communities as determined by the Climate and Economic Justice Screening Tool. Areas that are considered disadvantaged are welcome to apply and will not need to provide match for this grant.

The work performed as a result of this grant will require commitment and effort from the grantee. The criteria for the Inflation Reduction Act Grant can be found below.

  1. New Tree Planting — ($100,000)
  2. Urban Forest Renovation — ($100,000)
    1. Allows for urban tree and stump removal with a tree replacement ratio of 2-1.
  3. Tree pruning or general tree maintenance — ($100,000)
  4. Development of a tree ordinance or urban forestry management plan — ($100,000)
  5. Development or maintenance of an urban food forest — ($100,000)
  6. Insect and disease treatments — ($100,000)
  7. Tree Inventory — ($100,000)
  8. Other — ($100,000)

Grants have a maximum limit of $100,000. There is no required match.

Grant applications will be accepted at any time during the year. Applications will only be considered in the current or upcoming grant round dependent on the date of your application. The grant round will begin September 1st and will be open for approximately 6 weeks. Application forms are available below, or by contacting the DANR Resource Conservation and Forestry Division.
